Hello everyone, I'm very late to the riecoin party - I used to crunch primecoin back in the day but seeing it is now defunct, figured riecoin is the go-to now for 'useful' PoW.
Anyhow, what is the consensus here for maximizing RIC/kWh?
Is Stella a CPU cache hog and does performance increase proportionally to core count?
I suppose something like an undervolted Ryzen 9900X or 9950X is the sweetspot?

Hello, it is never too late to be a Riecoiner!
Riecoin Mining is not known to be Cpu Cache intensive, at least with the current implementation, and in the sense that, it has been observed that there was not any advantage in using a 5700X and even a 5800X3D over a 5700G. I think that this still holds nowadays.
Though I have not measured with only 1 Core/2 Threads, performance with my 9950X appears almost proportional to the Core Count. In the Benchmark Mode (2507, Natively Built/not Riecoin.xyz Binaries, Default Settings but 25 Sieve Bits), at a fixed 4 GHz Frequency, I got about 30% performance increase for 33% more Cores: about 77000 c/s for all 32 Threads and 59000 c/s for 24 Threads (4 Cores disabled in the Bios, not just 24 Threads with all Cores Enabled).
Undervolting or Underclocking is highly advised for efficiency indeed, and also considering that the Gmp Developers managed to fry their Cpus! Don't be scared though, I mined for a long while with the 9950X without issues, I think that you should just ensure that all these Auto Overclocking and Boost stuffs are not in effect, check that the Cpu is not mining with all Cores or some at 5+ GHz or so...
Definitively get a Zen5 Cpu, this generation might have disappointed some, but for Riecoin Mining it completely destroys Zen4s, Iirc it is 40% faster Clock by Clock thanks to a better Avx512 implementation.
And I can't wait for Zen6 with 50% more Cores...
For optimal efficiency with 16 Cores, you should get at least 32 GiB Ram, though Memory used for Sieving can always be reduced for a small performance penalty if the massive price increases due to the stupid Ai Craze are a problem.
Memory Frequency and Timings should not matter much, in an old Benchmark there was a 3% penalty for using DDR4 2400 CL18 vs 3200 CL14, though I have not checked again for an Am5 Platform.

The Difficulty varies a lot due to the inconsistency of some big Miners with large proportion of the Mining Power, so does the Profitability.
The Benchmark Mode' Difficulty is 1024 and the 77000 c/s translated to about 11 Blocks/day in average in the testing context (with a Ratio r of about 17.967).
At Difficulty 1100, the machine would yield about 5-6 Blocks/day, and at Difficulty 960 about 20 Blocks/day, c/s and r would also be different from the ones at 1024.
